Someone who has greatly influenced my writing is my 8th-grade language arts professor. He always readily encouraged my writing and loved talking with me about all of the novels I had read and been enjoying. His name is Mr. Jensen, and he is one of the main reasons why I am choosing to study English in college.
I don't fully know if it was the passion or the way his eyes light up when he talks about literature, but his passion and excitement made me want to continue learning about how I could help others to feel as passionate as you made me feel. There was a time when I wanted to become an English professor, but I soon came to realize that I did not do well with kids.
However, at the end of my senior year of high school, I went back to visit some old teachers and got the opportunity to talk to him again. I had forgotten how nice it was to talk to someone as passionate and encouraging about my writing as he was, and before I knew it, two full hours had passed, and the school was closing.
Mr. Jensen taught me how to love to write for the sake of seeing the delight in other spaces when they read my work or hearing the comments and feedback on things that I could do better on. I will truly never forget what he taught me, and I hope to go back and visit him again someday if only to get the chance to talk about books with him once more.
