I found a video posted by YouTuber Kristen Martin in March of 2016 titled The Basics of Marketing Your Book. Within the nine-and-a-half-minute presentation, Kristen describes the basics of marketing your book, social media marketing for authors, how to maximize book sales, and money off of self-published books.
She emphasized how important it is for an author, especially one who is looking to publish their first book, to take the time to utilize social media and even go as far as creating your own “professional-looking and user-friendly” website. These aspects serve to draw in readers and pique their interest in the concept of your novel.
Another point she made, which I thought was rather clever, was to reach out to local booksellers and inquire into their consignment programs, meaning that the shop would shelve the item, though the seller would not receive any profit until the item was sold. Kristen also mentioned how smaller, more family-owned sellers would be more likely to shelve your book rather than large corporations like Barnes and Noble or Powell’s.
Overall, I found this video to be very informative and think it serves as a nice overview for small authors just starting to research ways to get their works published.
